While occasional treats can be fine for your pet, keep in mind many foods that us humans find tasty can cause serious problems for our furry pups! Here are 9 foods you should avoid feeding your dog.
Methylxanthines found in the cacao used to make it can be lethal to dogs, even in small amounts.
Alcohol is similar to chocolate in that it contains methylzanthines and will cause severe stomach problems and possible seizures.
Coconuts should be given to dogs with caution. Small amounts will not be lethal but will most likely cause vomiting. In large amounts, coconut can be toxic to dogs.
When ingested by dogs, grapes can cause kidney failure resulting in death. They can kill with few to no symptoms over just a course of a few days.
5. Apple Cores
Apple seeds have higher concentrations of cyanide, a common acid in fruits, which may cause respiration difficulties and seizures in dogs. Sadly, they can be fairly accessible to dogs, when digging through the trash, or snagging off the counter top.
The high caffeine content in coffee can cause sleeping problems in dogs. It also contains methylzanthines like chocolate and alcohol.
7. Raw Meat
Though it may seem natural to give dogs raw meat, it is actually bad for them. Their digestive systems have a hard time breaking down the raw meats, resulting in stomach ailments.
Just like many people are lactose intolerant, the same is true for dogs. Consumption in dairy may result in digestive problems.
9. Macademia Nuts
Though the reason for macademia nuts being lethal to dogs is unknown, just like grapes, it has been found that they create severe health problems and should be kept away.
